For you created my
inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I’d like to be taller, no wait, I’d like to be shorter. I’d like to have green eyes. I’d like to be thinner. I’d like to be smarter. I’d like to have naturally curly hair. I’d like to be able to sing well. I’d like to have longer fingers so I could play piano or harp. I’d like to have longer legs. I’d like to have nicer nails. I’d like to be better at English. I’d like to be able to spell. I would like computers to make sense to me.

Wow. How quickly the flaws we think we have added up. But just because we can list things we wish were different, doesn't make what we have and are flaws.
The one thing I do not wish to change is my learning disability. I’m dyslexic. If someone said to me today that they had a 100% cure for dyslexia, I’d turn them down.

God doesn’t make mistakes. Dyslexia isn’t a disability as
some would say, but an ability. If it
weren’t for my “disability”, I wouldn’t be a writer. I believe dyslexia has
made me creative, or at least enhanced my creativity. I have learned over the
years that it is because of God working through my weakness that I’m able to be
a writer because it is all Him. (2 Cor. 12:10) It’s Him, not me. I give Him all
the credit.
God has given me a special gift in my dyslexia. It has been
hard, because there wasn’t a label (at least not in my school) for how I
struggled in school and was made to feel dumb. But I have had to depend on God
for every aspect of writing because I can’t do it. I was never very good in
English; I would have rather had my right arm cut off than have to read as a
child and into adulthood. It was a chore and hurt. And I can’t spell my way out
of a wet paper bag to save my life.
But, because of my dyslexia, I can’t take any of the credit
for my writing. That takes a lot of pressure off.
I praise you because I
am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know full well.
Psalm139:14
Thank You, Lord for making me just the way I am. Both the
good and the seemingly bad. Every flaw and defect that I see was designed from
the start by You to make me a whole person created to love You. Amen.
