Tuesday Tidbits: HEFFALUMPS AND WOOZELS

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

Winnie the Pooh and his friends would walk around fearing imaginary dangers. Heffalumps and woozels. They were so caught up in what might be out there that they couldn’t see anything else around them or be of much use.

As a child I knew there were monsters under my bed and in my closet. The closet door had to be closed completely to keep anything that might be in there at bay, and I dared not let an arm or leg hang off the edge of the bed lest I be yanked out of bed and drug under it. This is a common almost universal fear of children. Where does it come from?

We fear what we cannot see. We fear the unknown. We fear things that haven’t happen and probably never will. Fear seems to swirl around us sucking away all our joy and contentment.

If you think the worst and get the worst, you suffer twice, if you think the best, and get the worst, you suffer once.... --Anonymous

Remember you are on God’s team. The God who created the universe and created you. The God who can destroy the universe with a single thought and you too. God is our team Captain. We need not fear what comes at us from the opposing team.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. Psalm 91:4-6

Dear Lord, help me not be fearful of the imaginary dangers or even potentially real dangers. Help me to put all my trust in the future you have promised. You have everything in control and working according to your plan. Help me to see that I am covered by your wings. Amen.
