Tuesday Tidbits: RAIN, RAIN, DON’T GO AWAY

The current forecast for my area predicts upper-70s to low-80s for the next week or longer with not a raindrop in sight. We had temperatures in mid-80s the past two days. The hard part is that we don’t have AC and no way to cool the house. Ugh! A good rain shower would cool things off.

One of my favorite things about being back in the Pacific Northwest is the rain. I love rain. It makes the air smell so fresh and clean as well as makes things grow and green. I love to walk in the rain.

This is how I feel about rain.

While living in Colorado for nearly two decades, it was unwise to walk in the rain because it never just rained. There was always thunder and lightning. Lot's of lightning.

And the dry air gave me a constant dry tickle in my throat that would send me into coughing fits that made people around me wonder if I was going to hack up a lung. I wasn’t, but once it starts, it’s self-perpetuating. I sucked on cough drops nearly constantly, even while I slept. But since returning to a rainy climate, I hardly ever have to use cough drops. I even forget to keep one or two with me, just in case.

I used to think that I got my love of rain from growing up in a mostly rainy area. But my daughter, who grew up most of her life in dry Colorado, also loves the rain. So it must be something in the genes.

When I was young, I would hear about the Seattle Rain Festival.

Makes me smile!

January 1st to December 31st is a little too on the nose for my liking. I prefer to celebrate from September 1st to August 31st. It makes one think for for just a second.

This makes it seem like we have nonstop rain. We don’t get rain ALL the time, but we do get more than most, and I love it. Rain makes me happy and lifts my mood. And there is a reason for that—other than I’m an odd duck.

When it rains, positive ions are broken apart creating negative ions. We breath in these invisible, odorless, tasteless, mood-lifting molecules, and when the negative ions reach the bloodstream, it’s believed they increase serotonin, which can help lessen depression, reduce stress, and boost energy. Yay!

So, these negative ions have a positive effect on us. I love rain even more, and it explains why rain makes me happy.

BRING ON THE RAIN and the GOOD MOOD!

Can a patient love win her heart?

As Isabelle Atwood’s romance prospects are turning in her favor, a family scandal derails her dreams. While making a quilt for her own hope chest, Isabelle’s half-sister becomes pregnant out of wedlock and Isabelle--always the unfavored daughter--becomes the family sacrifice to save face. Despite gaining the attention of a handsome rancher, her parents are pressuring her to marry a man of their choosing to rescue her sister’s reputation. A third suitor waits silently in the wings, hoping for his own chance at love. Isabelle ends up with three marriage proposals, but this only further confuses her decision.

A handsome rancher, a stranger, and an unseen suitor are all waiting for an answer.  Isabelle loves her sister, but will she really allow herself to be manipulated into a marriage without love?
